The Vanguard Award

Check out the recap from the Vanguard End of the Year Awards Banquet!

We established the Vanguard Award in 2011 to honor the hard work of student athletes, coaches and athletic directors in Hillsborough County high schools. There is no question that athletics provide a strong foundation for students and the Vanguard Award is our way of celebrating the commitment, dedication and integrity it takes to be both a star player and a strong student.

Each month of the school year, Vanguard awards a “Student Athlete of the Month” who excels not only in athletics but also in the classroom and the community. With the Student Athlete of the Month award, we present a $1,000 check to the school’s athletic department in honor of the awarded athlete’s performance. Additionally, each July, Vanguard recognizes two coaches – one coach of male athletics and one coach of female athletics – for their outstanding contributions over the previous year.

Award winners are determined by the Vanguard Award Selection Committee, which is comprised of Tampa Bay leaders, including Preston Jackson of Big County Preps, Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan and former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ryan Nece. The student nomination deadline is the 14th of each month from September to May and the coaches award deadline is June 14th. If you have any questions, please contact Jessie at 813-273-0017.

We want to thank all of the coaches and athletic directors who provide important leadership, inspiration and guidance that builds the foundation for a lifetime of dedication and achievement. We also want to thank all of the student athletes who dedicate their time and energy to bettering themselves and their community.

If you are interested in nominating a coach, athletic director, or student athlete to be considered for the Vanguard Award, please complete all the information requested in the form below for consideration by the Vanguard Award Selection Committee.
